Every October, the most incredible thing happens to the sky above Albuquerque, New Mexico. At 7 am, on the weekend of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, hundreds of brightly colored hot air balloons ascend towards the heavens. The energy prior to ascension is high and the anticipation is almost overwhelming. You know something magical is about to happen.
We were mesmerized by the colors and the sheer number of hot air balloons that rise into the sky. The highlight of the festival happens early in the morning, and is over quickly, but the grounds have food and wine tasting and plenty to keep your attention for the rest of the day. This will forever be one of the most enchanting things I've ever done in my travels, and should be on everyone's USA bucket list.
Hoping to explore more of New Mexico but happy to have the state checked off my list in the most beautiful way possible!
