a better way to see the Oia sunset

Santorini is famous for it's sunsets.  The way the golden glow, of the setting sun, hits the white buildings, is one of the greatest sights a tourist can see in her travels.  Matt and I fell in love with the island's magic hour but, our loyalty remains with the actual sunset, directly over the horizon.  Viewers may not experience the spellbinding glow of the Oia cliffs, but they do see a killer sunset, with way less crowds.

Our version of the famous sunset cliffs included being trampled on, pushed around, and squished through the tiny streets of Oia.  Once we reached the edge of town, I realized we were too late, even though it was 2 hours before sunset, and I was much too short to see over everyone's head.  After the incredibly stressful (and extremely sweaty) evening, we decided there had to be a better way to enjoy the view.

In our opinion, watching the actual sunset was way more fun.  We headed to a cute little patio bar where we had dinner and drinks while the sun slipped slowly below the horizon.  By the time the sun was completely set, we had drunk a handful of Greek beers, filled an entire camera card with photos and were sporting the cheesy grins of those that just saw something really beautiful.  The cliffs are certainly magical but this sunset was pretty enchanting too.

We've traveled all over Europe, but I think Santorini may be my number 1.  Look for more on Santorini in posts about our incredible hotel and Oia's perfect blue domes.  Take a peek at the other parts of our honeymoon, include Athens and Crete, Greece.

Yamas!
