shades of blue in Santorini

When we were married in 2015, we knew we wanted to visit the Greek Islands for our honeymoon.  For years I had been looking at photos of the bright blue domes of the Santorini churches.  For years, I had heard about the majestic blue waters of the Adriatic Sea.  The white and pink buildings of the Oia cliffs was something I knew we had to see and the incredible cliff side hotels were dream locations to rest our head each night.  Matt did all the research on the other islands and the hotels, but all I wanted to do was walk the streets of Oia.

Santorini in June was extremely warm.  The humidity was very heavy and the temperatures, even early in the morning were in the high 80s and 90s.  The streets of Oia are very narrow and closed-in, so the crowds make it difficult to navigate the city comfortably.  After venturing out mid-day a few times, we learned that the best time to really see the city (and get clear shots of the buildings) was going to be early in the morning, before the cruise ships came in and before the sun was it's hottest.  The views were even more gorgeous than I thought they'd be.

Everything in Santorini is blue; the sky, the sea, the domes, the doors.  The white buildings and the pink flowers offset the blue beautifully.  Every corner and every vista is photo worthy.  The town is quite small but with the frequent stops and winding roads, it takes hours to see the entire area.

How gorgeous is the light reflecting off the white buildings?  We would stand in this spot and just gaze at the cliffs and the sea, snapping photos periodically, to help us remember the feeling always.

Photo ops are around every corner and we had a really good time posing in various locations :)

Everyone asks us what to do in Santorini, and honestly, we can't tell you anything that exciting.  We spent our time, walking the streets, gazing at the sea, and eating all the Greek food we could get our hands on.  For us, our honeymoon was all about relaxation and quality time together!
