We are creatures of habit and there is nothing that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy more than tradition. Holiday traditions aside, the routine I look forward to the most each year, is our annual September trip to Sea Island. Matt's college bestie was married at The Cloister at Sea Island in 2013 (?) and the bride's family has long standing ties with the island. Each year we head back with a large group of friends to relive that special wedding weekend. When Matt lived in Atlanta, we'd road trip through Georgia and I always knew when we were close to the coast when the trees started to change.
The weekend has changed from all-night beer pong tournaments to books, wine, and catch-up conversations, but some traditions always remain the same; a few days at The Beach Club, game nights, and a night out on the town in St. Simon. We all stay at the bride's family cottage on the island, but some of our best memories have occurred at The Beach Club at Sea Island. Depending if we spend time sans-kids at the adult only pool, or we let the kids tag along and spend our days at one of the main pools, there is always so much activity.
Our favorite pastimes, include basketball (don't play barefoot, the guys learned that the hard way one year), the water slide, beach volleyball, and shuffle board. We love iced lattes & ice cream cones from the snack bar, tacos or salads for lunch (sometimes chicken finger kids' meals for the grown ups), and our all-time favorite poolside treat, a pina colada with a floater! Take a break from the sun under the awning of the poolside bar or watch football on the restaurant patio bar.
As much as I love my friends and our really heated conversations, what I love the most, is to walk around the property, snapping photos of the beautiful architecture and the perfectly manicured lawns. From there, I walk down towards to ocean to snap seaside vignettes, the crashing waves, and the gorgeous mansions along the coast.
We spend most of our time at the house or at the beach club, but we do periodically venture out to the neighboring towns for a meal or an evening out on the town. Some of my favorites include sandwiches at The Market at Sea Island and a fancy dinner at Del Sur in St. Simon. St. Simon is adorable in it's own right and totally worth a trip if you can't get onto Sea Island. The new collection of rental homes, The Park, just opened in St. Simon Islands and I'm kind of itching to check it out.
As our crew gets married, has kids, & moves to different cities, one thing always remains the same...that September weekend in Sea Island. This little slice of the south will always have my heart <3
