Exploring the National Mall
The riots at the Capital have me thinking about my life in DC. I started digging up photos of the US Capital to remind myself what it looked like on normal days when insurgents weren't trying to overthrow democracy. I had forgotten that the stairs are totally blocked off to civilians, and while the security isn't tight (just a small gate) there were tons of "guards" around to make sure you didn't hop the fence. These first photos were taken in 2013, after the wedding of a very dear friend. She was married at the Regan Building (incredibly beautiful) so we were steps from the National Mall and all the monuments. We had a blast walking around and reliving the sites from our younger days in DC.
A couple years ago, Matt and I went back to visit these same friends and had a mini-reunion with our crew from DC & Phoenix. Many of our PHX friends moved back to the DC area so it's fun to be able to visit everyone at once. Again, we decided to walk the Mall. Not something I did all that often when I lived there, but it's pretty cool to relive the history. Crazy to think about students going forward learning about the Trump Administration and Covid-19. More history to be learned (and learned from!) at the Capital Building now.
