winter at the beach: Lincoln Park

Winter in Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is one of my favorite parks in the world, and not just in the summer time (although it REALLY shines on a summer Saturday).  On those quiet, warmish, winter days, there is nothing better than releasing yourself from your hibernation and exploring the beauty of nature.  I often start my nature walk at the Diversey Harbor.  The views of the city are stunning and I'm always on the lookout for the first boat in the slips.

Walking the Lakeshore Path south will lead to Fullerton Beach and then onto North Avenue Beach.  There is something a little magical about the high tide, strong crashing waves and snow on the sand.  It feels enchanting, especially since you'll probably be the only person on the shore.  Those city skyline views are beautiful in any weather.

Circle back north by, turning up North Ave and then onto Stockton to walk through the Nature Boardwalk and the Lincoln Park Zoo.  These areas of the park are spectacular in any season.  Catch more stunning views of the skyline from the Bridge Over South Pond. While the beach may be empty, the zoo with be busy.  Kids need to be outside and could care less about the cold!  The walk up Stockton is full of lovely sites beyond the Zoo, including North Pond, The Lincoln Park Conservatory, and the Nature Museum & Nature Sanctuary.

Grab a latte, some really warm gloves, and definitely something to keep your ears warm from the cold Lake Michigan wind.  Before you know it, you've walked over 20,000 steps, cleared your mind, and seen some really beautiful scenery.
