dewey beach: adult spring break

Make Out Beach - Dewey Beach, Delaware

Thinking back to the craziest trips I took in my 20s, Vegas and New Orleans easily come to mind.  My friend Heather's bachelorette party in Vegas or the various PHX-LAS 24 hour group trips (including the trip where Matt and I started dating) were some of the best.  A 7pm Friday night group trip to New Orleans that ended with a 7am Saturday morning flight home, was another "night out" I'll never forget.  But, the most crazy fun, party vacations I ever took, were to Dewey Beach, DE.

The beach is mobbed with 20 sometimes in town for the weekend from nearby DC, Philly, or Baltimore.  Some are celebrating bachelor or bachelorette parties, milestone birthdays, or other big life events, but a majority of the kids are just in town to drink grapefruit crushes all night and lie on the beach all day.  I have hundreds of photos of my girlfriends and I, drinking the famous fresh-squeezed grapefruit or orange crushes (fresh squeezed citrus juice, vodka, triple sec & Sprite).  In the photos we're hanging out at the Starboard or Rusty Rudder, listening to live concerts, dancing with random bachelor parties, and smiling from ear to ear.  Never in a million years would I dare to post these photos, because, similar to Vegas, What Happens in Dewey, Stays in Dewey, even if you happen to run into the members of the said bachelor party when you're back to your normal life in DC :)

Favorite Bars & Restaurants (that appear to have lasted the 20 years it's been since my last trip to Dewey):  Starboard, Rusty Rudder, Northbeach, Woody's, Bottle & Cork

While I'm not sure I'd be up for one of these crazy weekends now that I'm middle aged, I will remember these weekends as some of my favorite.  Here is a quick peak at the Delaware coast, which may be the 2nd biggest draw to the area, after the Grapefruit Crush.

What are some other destinations known for their party atmosphere?  I spent my high school and college spring breaks in Myrtle Beach, SC and Panama City, Florida but where else do adult go to live it up?
