Truckee, CA

This summer, Matt and I headed out west to vacation with our good friends and their new baby boy.  We spent a couple days in Reno and a week at Lake Tahoe.  Everything about the trip was relaxing and entertaining.  The perfect trip for our first trip post Covid-19 vaccine!  While in Tahoe, we took a couple day trips to Truckee, California and fell in love with the little western town in the middle of nowhere.

Our first stop in Truckee was the local brewery, Alibi.  We sat outside under the awnings, experimented with the signature beers, and ate a solid lunch, not normally found in this type of establishment.  Matt and I like to sip the local brews in all the cities we visit and this one perfectly summed up our day in Truckee.

After a hearty lunch and a couple beers, we were ready to explore.  The downtown main street, Donner Pass Road, in Truckee is darling.  Cute little stores line the road as well as significant restaurants, popular artworks, and even an old timey gas station.  The wild west theme is alive and well without being too kitschy or over the top.  Famous restaurants include Moody's Bistro Bar & Beats, headed up by Chef William Burns of 11 Madison Park and Ritz Carlton fame and on the other end of the spectrum, there is the quirky diner, Squeeze In.  Squeeze In and Chef Misty Young was featured on the Food Network Show, Beat Bobby Flay where she crafted one of her famous omelets.  While I enjoyed stepping inside each and every shop we passed, my favorite shops to peruse were, Word After World Books, Bespoke/Made + Maker, Jack & Emmy children's store, and High Camp Home.  Souvenir shopping at it's best.

A separate day trip to Truckee found us exploring beyond the historic downtown area, specifically at Fiftyfifty Brewing Co.  The area surrounding the Brewery is made up of hip restaurants, lots of green spaces, and the wildly popular (the line was out the door the entire time we were nearby) Mountain Valley Meats butcher shop.  It was the perfect space to have a couple beers and some amazing bar food.  The deep fried cheese curds were one of the top things I've ever had and just look how happy Matt is with that giant burger!  A week in Tahoe is amazing, but a couple day trips to Truckee make it perfect.

Until next time Truckee, stay golden.
