florida's artsy coast: Dunedin part 1

Last June, when Matt was between jobs, we took a month off to travel and visit family & friends.  We started our journey in Pittsburgh for Memorial Day and a week with Matt's family.  Then we traded coasts and spent a week exploring the California Coast from Monterey to Paso Robles.  The last of our travels took us to Dunedin, Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph's Sound.  Matt found the cutest hotel, The Fenway, and we spent a week relaxing and touring around this incredible city.

The Fenway Hotel

My favorite part of the entire trip, was our stay at the Fenway Hotel.  The building was once the home to one of America's first radio stations and the radio theme through the hotel is fascinating.  The rooms are spacious and kitschy, in the best possible way.  There is a hotel bar full of cocktails and stage for live music from local artists.  The hotel includes an outdoor pool, perfect for lazy afternoons in the hot summer days.  Something we took advantage of each day of our stay was the onsite breakfast included each morning.  Sleeping late and then filling up on meals such as grilled butternut squash steaks with hashbrowns & eggs or chicken fried steak & eggs was the best way to start the day.  We enjoyed a completely different brunch each morning of the trip and we were in heaven as brunch was served 7 days a week until noon - the perfect recipe for a relaxing vacation before starting a new job.   Despite all those mentioned perks, the best part about the Fenway hotel, was the rooftop bar.  The views overlooking the water were perfect at sunset, where we would often have a cocktail and bar food while savoring the seascape.   When we were able to pull ourselves away from the hotel, the Fenway was conviently located to downtown Dunedin with it's shops, restaurants, and breweries, as well as TD Ballpark and Pinnellas Trail.  The ideal location for walking to all things Dunedin!

We were really into running last summer and spent an hour each day walking or jogging along the waterway path of John Grant Hubbard Park.  The views were so beautiful, they pulled me outside each day, despite the hot sun and humid air.  We were so into these jogs, that we signed up, last minute, for the Pride 5K that was held the Saturday we were in town.  The race was very small and very casual, but so much fun to experience this with the locals.  Any race that ends with cake and beer is a win in my book!  More of this artsy coastal town to come...
