the official flower of nyc

Welcome June!  After the MOST beautiful Spring flower display in years, I'm sad to say goodbye to my favorite months of April & May, but excited for the floral displays of the summer season (hello Roses, and Hydrangeas!)  Before totally closing out the spring flower season, I have to talk about the incredible display of daffodils in NYC this Spring.  The Daffodil Project has been planting bulbs around the city for over 20 years.  There are over 8 million planted thus far and it was especially evident this year, in the beautiful display across all parks, pathways, and flower boxes in the city.  Started after 9/11, The Daffodil Project began when a Dutch bulb supplier, Hans van Waardenburg, gifted the city a million flower to honor those who died in the attacks.  Around 400,000 New Yorkers volunteer to plant the daffodils throughout the city each year and, in 2021, the number of bulbs was increased to 1 million a year to also honor those lost in the Covid-19 pandemic.  The living memorial to those lost reminds New Yorkers that we are resilient and that we will always have hope. Here are some of my favorite places to see the official flower of New York City.
