the lost city of Atlantis: Part 2

The Atlantis:  The Dig & Marina Village

Days two and three on Paradise Island in the Bahamas were less about exploring the grounds (although we did that too) and more about taking advantage of the water activities the Atlantis offers.  Matt did a few of the waterslides (see him "swimming" with the sharks below) and we both enjoyed the not so lazy river.

While I knew Atlantis as a family friendly resort with a water park and deep sea wildlife, I was not prepared for how into the sea life I would be.  The Dig (basically an underground aquarium) was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.  Since all the wildlife can be found in the Bahamas, it wasn't like a zoo where animals are taken from their natural habitat and placed in the middle of a city.  Various areas were sectioned off with glass walls, allowing us to see nature in action.  There were aquarium windows in the restaurants, in the hotels, and in tunnels underneath the property.  Watching the fish was pretty surreal.

After wandering through a few underground tunnels, we popped out in the middle of Predator Lagoon, and waited in the really long line for lunch at Lagoon Bar and Grill. It was worth the wait though as the food was the best fast casual we had over the weekend.  Not all the sea creatures were behind glass and while waiting in line for a seat at the restaurant, we were able to watch all the predators from the lagoon in action.  Another one of those moments of dinner and a show!

After lunch, we took a walk around the Predator Lagoon, watching the staff feed the sharks, delicately walking across the rope bridge, and snapping some photos of The Royal hotel in the distance.

Another fun Instagram moment of the day was a carefree ride on the Love Swing.  Too cute.

We ended Day 2 in the Casino, having dinner at the extraordinary Mediterranean Restaurant, Silan, by chef Alon Shaya.  I didn't take many photos but the highlight of the meals was the Messe platter chock-full of delicious bites.

The highlight of Day 3 (besides lounging at the pool for hours!) was a walk through Marina Village.  The cotton candy colored stores and restaurants are darling and there is a lot to see and do if you need some time away from the beach.  We spend some quality time at The Dilly Club, a coffee shop by day and cocktail bar by night, but also enjoyed scoping out the massive yachts lining the marina.

Well, that's a wrap on our 5-star long weekend in the Bahamas.  Fun times had by all.
