november colors in NJ

Growing up, November was never a favorite month of mine.  Despite the month of my birthday, I was never a fan of the cold grey days of November.  It seemed so dreary in between the bright colors of October and the festive feel of December.  It was the start of winter and I was already ready for Spring before Thanksgiving even rolled around.

All of that changed, the second I moved to NY/NJ.  November in the NYC area is beautiful.  This year, we didn't have rain for the entire month and the temps were in the 70s for many of the days.  Global warming aside, the fall colors are at their peak through much of the month.  I first noticed fall had begun as I was flying home to Newark airport on the first Sunday of the month.  Even from above, the colors were stunning, especially in the golden glow of sunrise.

The front stoops in our Jersey City neighborhood are vibrant and beautiful as well.  Our neighbors go all out!

Another neighborhood favorite, is Hamilton Park.  The Wednesday farmers market is a beloved tradition but even cutting through on our way to the train is a feast for the senses.  Covered in pink blooms in the Spring, providing perfect shade in the Summer, and showing vibrant orange, red, and yellows in the Fall, these cherry blossom trees are splendid in all seasons.  The gazebo is also surrounded by vivid colors from the hearty fall flowers that seem to keep popping up week after week, no matter how cold the night temperatures drop.  Every time I walk by, the flowers continue to surprise me, even late into the growing season.

Hamilton Park isn't the only neighborhood park to wow us with fall colors. Enos Jones Park's ball fields and walking paths have gorgeous views. The Newport Path park is splendid with it's fall and Holiday combo.

Even the views from my window are multicolored and vibrant.  Everywhere I look, I see the beauty of nature.  No longer the dreary days between October and December; November is now the best of all that Fall and Christmas have to offer!
