This past weekend was the annual Chicago Air and Water Show. The first time I ever visited Chicago, a friend took us to the show. I remember sitting on the beach with the skyscrapers to my back, the lake in front of me, and the planes darting across the sky above me. I could not believe a city this perfect existed. I was immediately hooked on Chicago and that love affair has never ended! Every year that I lived in Chicago, I looked forward to this amazing event; truly one of the most entertaining (and free) weekends of the summer.
The headliner rotates between The Air Force Thunderbirds and The Navy Blue Angels but either way, the show each puts on is mind bending. As a frequent flier, I cannot comprehend how the pilots execute these maneuvers. From my tiny apartment in Lakeview East, I could hear the boom of the planes as they flew over my neighborhood for practice on the days leading up to the show. Nothing is more terrifying when you don't expect it but also nothing pumps you up more for the weekend's festivities. I wasn't there this weekend, but the memories are just as loud.
