naples part 1: fear and beer, with some pretty things in between

I have spent many long winter weekends enjoying the sunshine of Southwest Florida, thanks to the hospitality of one of my close friends who has lived in the area for quite some time.  After years of visiting Naples, here is a list of my favorite things to do when I'm in town.

My friend will probably laugh that I have the Everglades Air Boats listed as number one, since I was terrified the entire experience and only did this once (and never again, thank you very much).  BUT, I still highly recommend it since it is a very unique experience where you zoom (very fast) over the top of the water, taking in the incredible mangroves and spotting a few alligators along the way.  It's loud, it's fast, and you have to hang on for dear life, but it's fun so you have to do it at least once!  It's the first thing I even did when visiting Matt in Naples so I'll always be nostalgic about the adventure.

After I got my sea legs back, my friend took me to lunch at the cutest spot with canal views, outdoor seating and a killer BLT.  Seventh South Waterfront hit the spot.

Next we headed to the Gulf (of MEXICO!!) to walk the pier and peek at the crystal blue waters.  We haven't spent much time at the beach during my visits, but I do love putting my feet in the pure white sand and seeing the horizon off in the distance.

I'm often visiting in March and the temps can be well into the 80s, just in time for Spring Break. After our walk to the beach, we were ready for a drink.  Matt took me an area he knew I would love, 3rd Street South, for a little shopping and a cool drink at Sea Salt.  The buildings were pastel colored, orchids bloomed everywhere and historic signs dotted the street.  It was a beautiful way to see downtown Naples.

Next on the list is Naples Beach Brewery.  While there are other breweries that we frequent more often, this one is a classic and I love a local brewery with hometown vibes.

Finally, dinner at Twisted Sheep is a must.  We have eaten here every single visit for the past 6 years.  The pizzas are fantastic, the staff are fun, and everything about the shop is charming (I especially love the seashell patio).

More on Naples in future posts, but these are some classics that make Southwest Florida a delight in the winter.
