best places in Chicago to see the tulips

 Those famous Chicago Tulips

There are so many things to love about Chicago.  The river running through the city, the amazing parks (Lincoln, Millennium, Oz, Wicker, Grant, etc.), the incredible food scene, The Cubs! Michael Jordan! the state of the art architecture, I could go on and on.  But for a few weeks out of the entire year, one thing to love about Chicago are the tulips!

While you can see tulips all over the city, there are two spots I will not miss the first week in May;  Millennium Park & Michigan Ave.

Michigan Ave Tulips

Walk along Wacker Drive or State Street in the loop, and you'll be blessed with stunning sidewalk gardens everywhere you look.  Mixed with the famous Chicago architecture, it makes for one of the most beautiful downtowns in the country!  Cross the Chicago River and head north up Michigan Ave for my favorite display of tulips in the city.  The median running down Michigan Ave is filled with thousands of multi-colored tulips that make the most vibrant Spring display.  I like to walk home from work the long way and appreciate the warmer weather, longer daylight, and the magnificence of the Magnificent Mile!

Millennium Park Tulips

A perfect place to hang out on a Spring Saturday, or my favorite way to experience the Millennium Park Tulips, is a leisurely walk through the park on my lunch break. The fresh air, city views, and abundance of nature is just what I need to get me through the afternoon slump.  The flower gardens that welcome you to the park are lovely, as are the tulips flanking the walkway to the Art Institute.

While Michigan Ave and Millennium Park are my two best spots to see the tulips, there are unlimited spaces to see the tulips during the short bloom season.  Tulips are essentially everywhere in the city.  Here are a few snaps from Lakeview and Lincoln Park; Miles from the tulip hot spots, but just as beautiful.  Spring is almost here!

If you want to get outside the downtown area, Time Out has a list of other magical places to see the Chicago tulips.
