The Gateway to the Amalfi Coast: Sorrento Italy
After the abhorrent heat of the first week of our Italian adventure, I was looking forward to the ocean breezes along Italy's southern coast. The hellish train ride from Naples to Sorrento was well worth it once we stepped off the train and onto the Amalfi Coast!!
In Sorrento, we stayed in a hostel that resembled a hotel in every way, complete with private rooms and bathroom, a lobby bar, and all the amenities you'd expect from a normal hotel chain. We were even able to schedule our bus ride and tour of the seaside towns that make up the Amalfi Coast. But first, we spent a few days in this gorgeous town on the Bay of Naples. It was here that I floated in the salty waters of the Mediterranean Sea for the first time ever :)
Like all Italian cities, Sorrento is teaming with history but after spending the last week+ in Milan, Bologna, Florence and Pisa, we were ready to spend our time eating fresh local seafood & Neapolitan style pizza, drinking wine on the water, and lounging seaside under a stripped umbrella. Plus gelato. Always gelato. Points of interest include, Piazza Tasso, Corso Italia, Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza Sant'Antonio, Piazza Andrea Veniero and Villa Comuale.
