A Perfect Day on Italy's Amalfi Coast
In the summer of 2014, my friend Brian and I headed off to Italy for 17 incredible days of Italian sunshine. We saw ruins and experienced history all over the western coast of Italy, while having the time of our lives. While we were excited to see all the most beloved big cities like Milan, Florence, and Rome, the main purpose of our trip was a visit to the Amalfi Coast. We participated in a day tour from our home base in Sorrento so we did not spend more than a few hours in each of these popular beach towns. Brian has been back since and spent time in Ravello and the surrounding areas. I haven't been back but am dying to take Matt to experience all the pop and circumstance that is the Amalfi Coast.
Positano & Amalfi
We hopped a bus in Sorrento and were guided along the winding cliff roads to the heart of the Amalfi Coast. Our guide spouted off facts and trivia, but I was too enthralled with the scenery to pay much attention. We were given a few hours in each destination and really enjoyed our time wandering the shops, churches, beaches, and restaurants. Must visit hotels & restaurants in Positano include Hotel Poseidon, Le Sirenuse and Franco's Bar. We sat at Li Galli Bistro but the others are top of my list when I come back for more than a day trip.
One of the best excursions we participated in during our tour of the Amalfi Coast, was a boat cruise. The views of the cliffs and the coast from the Mediterranean Sea were magnificent and we were able to see the other beach towns that make up this incredible area. Being out on the water is a must-do for anyone visiting the region.
Ravello
Our last stop on the Amalfi Coast was the absolutely gorgeous town of Ravello. While most of our previous stops involved being near the sea and looking up into the cliffs, Ravello is high above the coast, overlooking vineyards and multi-colored houses. The lemons, the wine, the views...Ravello is a dream. I want to live here forever and ever and be the happiest version of myself possible :)
Best places to stay in Ravello are 5 star Belmond Hotel Caruso and Palazzo Avino and the most beautiful gardens can be found at Villa Cimbrone. Finally, enjoy wine from Ettore Sammarco and stock up on all the limoncello you can get your hands on.
Awesome Amalfi resources can be found in blogs I've found around the internet. To keep them all together for quick reference, I'm listing them all here:
