A Summer Saturday in Long Island City

My perfect day in LIC starts with piping hot coffee.  On this Summer Saturday, we started out at the new(ish) food hall, Jacx & Co. Our breakfast of choice, was pastries & avocado toast from Ghaya, a cafe by the James Beard award winning pastry chef, Ghay Oliveira.  No better way to ring in a new weekend!

No trip to Long Island City is complete without a walk along the East River.  Hunter's Point South in Gantry Plaza State Park is one of my all time favorite parks in NYC.  The park is an incredible mix of nature and man-made beauty and the Manhattan skyline adds the final touch of magic.  Favorite areas of the park include the Pepsi sign, the new Queens Library, the old railroad track gardens, and the wandering paths deep into the Hunter's Point South Extension.

After all that walking, it's definitely time for lunch!  Matt and I love the wings at The Huntress but this day, we decided to stay close to Vernon Ave and hit up the sister restaurant, The Baroness.  The best burger in LIC did not disappoint.  We grabbed a seat at the bar and ate our way through the most delicious burger and fries.

Obviously, all that salt has made us thirsty, so the next logical stop is one of the many LIC breweries.  Fifth Hammer is a tradition so our next stop on our Summer Saturday in Long Island City was to the old warehouse building on 46th Ave.  The summer is a perfect time to visit LIC breweries since most have delicious sours available this time of year.  We like to try a few tastings and then commit to a pint of our favorites.

Long Island City has a variety of great breweries, so you can linger at Fifth Hammer or start a beer crawl to all the local establishments.  There are no shortage of delicious restaurants in the area, so walk about and find one that strikes your fancy.  Tried and true spots for dinner include Go Nonna's, Levante, Luzzos, Xi'an Famous Foods, Case Enrique, Lupo Rosso Pizzeria, Rang Indian, & Top Quality.  Long Island City has grown into a perfect NYC neighborhood in the last ten years, so keep coming back to see all the changes.
