Day trips from the city are some of my favorite Saturday activities. One of my most loved trips is to Westport, Connecticut. A quick train ride from Grand Central brings you to an adorable downtown with high end big box shopping and an abundance of delicious restaurants, both with a slight New England vibe. Walk about a mile outside the main downtown area and you'll come to the mecca of Terrain. Once inside, you will be immediately transported to a world of plants and flowers and housewares and all the pretty things. To celebrate my recent birthday, we arrived at lunch time and enjoyed a heavenly meal that was a feast for the eyes as much as the taste buds.
I'm a sucker for kitschy menu items and bonus points for these plant themed treats. The fresh baked bread is served in a flower pot with a side of herb butter and my dessert of choice was the chocolate terrarium that consists of chocolate and matcha that very convincingly represent dirt & flora.
While the massive store is filled with millions of beautiful items to purchase, I am drawn to the nursery. I cannot get enough of the rows and rows of indoor and outdoor plants. Thank goodness we have to take the train back home, otherwise my entire car would be filled to the brim with brand new plant babies. For now, the photos will have to do.
