sydney's Taronga Zoo

Sydney, Australia is my favorite city in the world and there are so many reasons why this city tops my list.  The restaurants, the ocean, and the people are top notch, but as someone who has visited many times, I also love to experience a new (to me) tourist attraction.  On one of my visits, I had an afternoon free and decided to visit the Taronga Zoo.

The best part about the Taronga Zoo is that the easiest way to visit is by ferry across the water from Circular Quay.  A boat ride and a zoo, all in one attraction.  Views of the city skyline from the ferry as well as from different vantage points around the zoo are breathtaking.

The motto of Taronga Zoo is a belief that humans and wildlife can share the planet and that it is our responsibility to protect the wildlife for generations to come.  While it's a fun and interactive place to see animals from around the world and specifically Australian animals, it's more of a place for animal care and rehabilitation as well as community engagement.  There are even a few places for guest to stay overnight in the zoo!  It's amazing.

Highlights of my visit included a ride on the gondola in the sky and a walk with the kangaroos.  I was able to see a few koala bears, but they were sound asleep the entire time I was at the zoo.  Oh well, next time :)

See more of my favorite places in Sydney, including The Grounds of Alexandria, Manly Beach, The Boathouse, CBD, The Royal Botanic Garden and the Contemporary Art Museum.
